Garden City's Own Baseball Team

Did you know that, among all the things to do in Garden City, watching baseball is a particular favorite among locals? That’s because Garden City is home to the Boise Hawks–the Northwest League affiliate of the Colorado Rockies.

Since 1987, this minor league team has thrilled Idahoans and visitors alike. They’re now a staple of Memorial Stadium, a hotspot nestled next to the river and within walking distance of some great dining and shopping options. The Hawks have won 10 division titles and 6 Northwest League titles–and on top of that, plenty of players have played in the major leagues and won World Series championships.

Garden City locals love cheering for their very own baseball team in the summer. It’s not just the good old-fashioned fun of baseball that brings everyone together, though. The Hawks and Memorial Stadium represent the beating heart of the area and of Idaho overall: a chance to enrich the community.

The Boise Hawks host Junior Hawks Baseball Camps and Boise Hawks Kids Club to support little ones with big dreams. Memorial Stadium is also home to fireworks shows, concerts, and community events. When all these things come together, you get experiences like “208 Day,” a day to celebrate local businesses and the people that make Garden City a fantastic place to live, work, and visit.

More Sports To Enjoy

It’s not just baseball that shapes Garden City’s character. There are plenty more games and competitions to visit in and around town:

The Boise State Broncos

The Broncos are a huge Idaho favorite, and plenty of locals don the team’s signature orange and blue when football season rolls around. The team plays on Lyle Smith Field in Albertsons Stadium, home to what Idahoans affectionately call “The Blue.” That’s because the turf here is famously bright blue–a testament to the town’s love for the Broncos.

Steelheads Hockey

The CenturyLink Arena is the home of the Idaho Steelheads, a professional minor league ice hockey team. Games are often held on Fridays and Saturdays, where people of all ages enjoy great views of the action. Plus, with downtown Boise right outside the stadium doors, you’re in the perfect spot to try a new restaurant or visit a local shop after the game.

Firebird Raceway

Firebird Raceway has been part of the local community since 1968. Here, locals and visitors alike come together to share in the joys of drag racing. From everyday street vehicles to modified machines, there’s room for everything–and everyone–at this raceway. You can even grab a plate of the famous “Nitro Nachos” to really complete your racing experience.

Snake River Stampede

The Ford Idaho Center in Nampa, Idaho, is a short drive from Garden City, and it’s home to “The Wildest, Fastest Show on Earth.” That’s right: It’s the Snake River Stampede, one of the top 10 professional rodeos in the country. From bull riding and barrel racing to junior events and community sponsors, this rodeo is a great way to unite the community and welcome visitors to the West. Whether you’re part of Idaho’s rich outdoor and farming world or have never seen a horse in your life, this is the perfect opportunity to see part of what makes our neck of the woods so special.
